How Sites are Chosen
How are Local Geodiversity Sites identified?
Members of GeoLancashire visited over 800 GeoDiversity sites in Lancashire. These are catalogued in a national museums survey undertaken in the 1970s and 1980s, currently held by the Lancashire Environmental Records Network.
Many other sites, identified as a result of additional field work or mentioned in academic journals, have been investigated
Each of the above sites has been evaluated against four criteria, agreed jointly by Natural England and GeoConservation UK, to assess suitability for LGS designation.
